When rookie journalist, Jamie Clifford, is assigned to report on a case of child abduction, it overwhelms the young man. His father knew the accused man some 25 years earlier, built up a rapport with him, and related to his boy the nature of the man, that he was a decent sort of person, despite rumours to the contrary. All the stories the rookie had were only in his memory; when he met the aged Benjamin Bennett the stories came to life. When Bennett asks him to defend him in court, Jamie is gob-smacked and makes it plain he can’t do it. However, moved by the confidence Bennett has in him, Jamie accepts the role.
